The Mike Norris Fishing Derby returns for its 26th year as a beloved winter tradition on Raquette Lake, bringing together families, friends, and anglers of all ages for a full day of fun on the ice. Hosted by the Raquette Lake Fish & Game Club, this long-running derby is about more than fishing—it’s about sharing stories, making memories, and celebrating winter together.
From early morning check-in to the final weigh-in, the lake comes alive with activity as participants drop their lines, cheer each other on, and enjoy the easy camaraderie that defines this event. Kids, parents, seasoned anglers, and first-timers alike are welcome, with junior and adult divisions ensuring everyone has a chance to take part. Throughout the day, there are food options, 50/50 drawings, door prizes, and plenty of reasons to stick around even after the fish stop biting.
Whether you’re competing for prizes, teaching a young angler their first ice-fishing skills, or simply soaking in a classic Adirondack winter day, the Mike Norris Fishing Derby is a reminder of how special it is to gather outdoors, support local traditions, and enjoy time together on the ice.
