The Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department announces the opening of Art in Nature, an outdoor art installation featuring eleven local Long Lake artists.
Long Lake artists were invited to paint a subject of their choice, which included, but was not limited to landscapes, local views, wildlife, abstract or artistic choice. The original artwork will be displayed in the community at various locations for residents and visitors to find while out recreating, sightseeing, hiking, walking, or biking. This will be a unique and surprising way discover art in nature where people would least expect it, bringing the art to the people.
The immediate accessibility to the great outdoors is what sets our Adirondack communities apart, and by moving art into nature the exhibition will offer an unexpected perspective and connect man-made art to natural features in the environment.
In the summer of 2024, the paintings can be seen at the Pavilion at the Mt. Sabattis Recreation Area, the Long Lake Town Beach, the Long Lake Medical Center, the Nature Trail, Shaw Pond, the Buttercup, the Long Lake Bridge Overlook, and the Long Lake Town Hall. The paintings will be out through much of October
Invited artists include Debbie Austin, Cindy Black, Matt Burnett, Melissa Burnett, Richard Chandler, Nancy Halter, Barbara Keough, Long Lake Central School Students, Sally Neenan, Jennifer Signell and Louisa Wright.
Maps of the tour will be available at the Long Lake Town Office Building 1130 Deerland Road in the 24 hour brochure room.

Matt Burnett
As a native of the Adirondack Mountain Region, my career as an artist has been molded by an unusually rural upbringing and access to the natural resources of Upstate New York.
Throughout my life I have been drawn towards the exploration of primordial environments. Through continual inquiry and engagement with wilderness – as a site, concept, and above all as experience – I have adopted painting as a means through which to engage in the non-sentient, as a device for seeking the objective access of structure and growth beyond human influence.
Melissa Burnett
Melissa is an Adirondack born artist who strives for realism in all of her work, be it landscape or portrait. Working with water mixable oil paints and charcoal/graphite, she especially enjoys nature scenes and drawings of animals. “After the Rain” – Richard Chandler
I am powerfully drawn to both the art of cityscape and that of landscape. While my paintings remain rooted in literal reality, they also reveal unseen forces that are continuously exerting themselves against the fixed boundaries of observed forms.
Buildings undulate, skies and sidewalks are wildly dappled, and perspectives seem to head towards some extraordinary other-worldly denouncement. Yet it all holds together in good order.
Nancy Halter

Nancy is available for commission, including wall murals, outdoor rocks/boulders, signs, lampshades, paddles, switch plates, saw blades, etc.
