DESCRIPTION: WHO/WHAT Members of the Bear Bait Radio Club will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise\, June 22 – 23 at the Mt. Sabattis Picnic Pavilion in Long Lake. Since 1933\, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.  \nWHEN Saturday and Sunday\, June 22 and 23. On Saturday\, June 22\, from 10AM to 6PM and on Sunday\, June 23\, from 9AM to noon.  \nWHERE Long Lake Pavilion\, 6 Deerland Rd\, Long Lake\, NY 12847  \nWHY Field Day is a showcase for how amateur radio works reliably under any conditions from almost any location to create an independent communications network. “Ham radio functions completely independent of the Internet or cell phone infrastructure\, can interface with laptops or smartphones\, and can be set up almost anywhere in minutes. That’s the beauty of amateur radio during a communications outage\,” says Bob Inderbitzen\, NQ1R\, spokesperson for ARRL The national association for Amateur Radio®\, (www.arrl.org)\, which represents amateur (or “ham”) radio operators across the country. “In today’s electronic do-it-yourself (DIY) environment\, ham radio remains one of the best ways for people to learn about electronics\, physics\, meteorology\, and numerous other scientific disciplines\, and is a huge asset to any community during disasters or emergencies if the standard communication infrastructure goes down\,” Inderbitzen adds. Anyone may become a licensed amateur radio operator. There are more than 750\,000 licensed hams in the United States\, as young as 9 and as old as 100. And with clubs such as Bear Bait Radio Club\, it’s easy for anybody to get involved right here in Long Lake. If you’re not a musician\, come to enjoy an afternoon of music. \nInstruments typically are guitar\, dobro\, fiddle\, dulcimer\, harp\, mandolin\, accordion\, concertina\, banjo\, spoons\, tin whistle\, bass\, whatever. Sadly\, there have been not fiddle players recently. There is no amplification. \nWe take turns in picking our favorite music so it can be Country\, Old Time\, Celtic\, Folk\, Bluegrass\, or whatever you want. We’ll even take requests and sometimes\, we might even know the tune. Over the years\, there have been some very strange songs played to Banjo and Mandolin.

DESCRIPTION:Amateur Radio “Field Day” – June 24 and 25 – Will Focus on Skill\, Service\, Science \nWHO/WHAT Members of the Bear Bait Radio Club will be participating in the national amateur radio Field Day exercise\, June 24 – 25 at the Mt. Sabattis Picnic Pavilion in Long Lake. \nSince 1933\, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day to showcase the science and skill of amateur radio. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. \nWHEN Saturday and Sunday\, June 24 and 25. On Saturday\, June 24\, from 10AM to 6PM and on Sunday\, June 25\, from 9AM to noon. \nWHERE Long Lake Pavilion\, 6 Deerland Rd\, Long Lake\, NY 12847 \nWHY Field Day is a showcase for how amateur radio works reliably under any conditions from almost any location to create an independent communications network. “Ham radio functions completely independent of the Internet or cell phone infrastructure\, can interface with laptops or smartphones\, and can be set up almost anywhere in minutes. That’s the beauty of amateur radio during a communications outage\,” says Bob Inderbitzen\, NQ1R\, spokesperson for ARRL The national association for Amateur Radio®\, (www.arrl.org)\, which represents amateur (or “ham”) radio operators across the country. “In today’s electronic do-it-yourself (DIY) environment\, ham radio remains one of the best ways for people to learn about electronics\, physics\, meteorology\, and numerous other scientific disciplines\, and is a huge asset to any community during disasters or emergencies if the standard communication infrastructure goes down\,” Inderbitzen adds. Anyone may become a licensed amateur radio operator. There are more than 750\,000 licensed hams in the United States\, as young as 9 and as old as 100.
