DESCRIPTION:Low’s Ridge – Upper Dam Trail \nLeaf Peeping and Birding! \nSaturday\, October 4\, 2025 \nPiercefield/Colton\, NY \n\nJoin Joan Collins for a walk into beautiful Hitchins Pond and the Upper Dam on the Bog River.  Common Loons nest on Hitchins Pond each year. Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons are also a common sight. The route is an old dirt road that passes through many lovely and varied habitat areas including a boreal bog\, marsh\, mixed forest\, and ponds/lakes. After the 2.5 mile walk on level terrain to Hitchins Pond\, there will be a food break at a scenic picnic area. Participants may order lunch from the ADK Trading Post. Lunch menus will be provided before departure. Order and enjoy a warm Panini delivered picnic side! There will be an optional 2-mile round trip hike up Low’s Ridge featuring spectacular views of the Bog River Valley and High Peaks. The round-trip distance is 5 miles\, or 7 miles if the hike up Low’s Ridge is added. Bring food (lunch can be ordered at departure)\, water\, a jacket\, appropriate attire/hiking shoes\, binoculars\, hat\, and sunscreen. Meet at the Geiger Arena parking area in Long Lake at 7 a.m. There is an outhouse at Hitchins Pond and a restroom at the Geiger Arena meeting location. Whitney Wilderness Area north of the Town of Long Lake.  Meet at the Long Lake Town Beach by the bridge over the lake at 6:30 a.m.  We will make a few birding stops in boreal habitat along Route 30 before heading to the William C. Whitney Wilderness Area\, along Sabattis Circle Road.  Eighteen warbler species breed along this road including Northern Waterthrush\, Mourning\, Palm\, and Canada Warblers.  Many boreal species can be found along Sabattis Circle Road including\, Black-backed Woodpecker\, Olive-sided and Yellow- bellied Flycatchers\, Canada Jay\, and Lincoln’s Sparrow.  Little Tupper Lake and Sabattis Bog are within the William C. DESCRIPTION:6-8pm. Long Lake Town Beach. \nGratefully Yours is a Grateful Dead inspired band\, based out of New Paltz\, NY. The band was conceived and founded in 2012 by keyboardist Alex Mazur\, who is also the founder of The Deadbeats; one of the longest running Grateful Dead cover bands in existence. \nHowever\, “cover band” is an extremely misleading term when it comes to the music of Gratefully Yours. Their willingness and ability to improvise\, and their openness to spontaneity and the energy of the moment lie at the core of their performances and truly sets them apart. In the very best tradition of The Grateful Dead\, it is this openness that allows the crowd to become a part of the creative process and results in a synergy between the band and the crowd that is unique and truly special. It is that magic that Gratefully Yours truly aims to “cover” and pay tribute to. \nThey also allow their audience to participate further by giving them the opportunity to submit their dream setlists\, which Gratefully Yours just happen to choose and perform.
