SUMMARY:“Living With Black Bears in the Adirondacks"
DESCRIPTION:Lou Berchielli\, DEC Bear Biologist\, Ret\, Returns to Long Lake to Discuss \n******* \nFriday\, August 18\, 2023\, 7-9PM\, \nLong Lake Town Hall\, 1204 Main St. \n(doors open 6:30PM; admission is gratis) \n******** \n\nAll Long Lake residents and summer visitors are invited to attend a two-hour long discussion and q&a with renowned Black Bear biologist\, Lou Berchielli\, who has dedicated his long career with the State DEC and into retirement to studying bears and educating the general public about these elusive and iconic creatures. \n  \nDuring the course of the evening\, he will narrate a film that summarizes his life’s work. His goal is to ensure the bears’ well-being as well as the safety of those of us who enter our woods hoping to see them. His well-known admonition – “A fed bear is a dead bear.” – signifies his belief that the responsibility for achieving that goal rests largely with us. \n  \nCome\, enjoy\, bring the older kids. Ask all the questions the film and your personal experiences summon up. \n  \n(Please note the illustration below is one of four information posters created by Long Lake Central School students subsequent to a discussion about bears with Mr. Berchielli when he visited their Science class in late May. Their Science teacher\, Ms. Nicole Curtin\, moderated that discussion. All four posters are on display in the Long Lake Public library.) \n  \nDoors open at 6:30PM. Admission is gratis. \nEvent organized by the Long Lake Wildlife Education Committee\, Dr.Jack Carney\, Coordinator. \nFor further information\, contact Dr. Carney at 971-734-9806.
