SUMMARY:Day Hike & Birding with Joan Collins- Low's Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Birding Hike with Joan Collins \n7am. Meet at Geiger Arena. Join Joan Collins for a walk into beautiful Hitchins Pond and the Upper Dam on the Bog River.  Common Loons nest on Hitchins Pond each year.  Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons are also a common sight.  The route is an old dirt road that passes through many lovely and varied habitat areas including a boreal bog\, marsh\, mixed forest\, and ponds/lakes.  After the 2.5 mile walk on level terrain to Hitchins Pond\, there will be a food break at a scenic picnic area.  Participants may order lunch from the Adirondack Trading Post.  Lunch menus will be provided before departure.  Order and enjoy a warm Panini delivered picnic side via guide boat!  There will be an optional 2 mile round trip hike up Low’s Ridge featuring spectacular views of the Bog River Valley and High Peaks.  The round trip distance is 5 miles\, or 7 miles if the hike up Low’s Ridge is added.  Bring food (lunch can be ordered at departure)\, water\, a jacket\, appropriate attire/hiking shoes\, binoculars\, hat\, sunscreen\, and insect spray.  Meet at the Geiger Arena parking area in Long Lake at 7 a.m. for transportation to the trailhead on Long Lake’s “Little Bus”!  (If you are traveling from the north\, the bus can meet you at a more convenient location.) There is an outhouse at Hitchins Pond and a restroom at the Geiger Arena meeting location.   \nRegister by calling the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department at 518-624-3077.  This field trip is jointly sponsored by Northern New York Audubon and the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department.  There is a maximum of 15 participants.

You will learn how to use the collars and pockets of used wool suit-jackets. Up-cycling old garments into a unique and beautiful patchwork bag will give them a new lease on life. \nClass Registration Fee is $200. You will be able to choose the right interfacing for the wool fabric to give the bag the ultimate shape. We use patchwork technique to give the bag a beautiful look and one of a kind product. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nWho should attend: \n\n\nYou are eager to learn new techniques\, share sewing tips and like to interface\, have fun and learn from others. The class addresses students with sewing experiences who know how to use tools like Rotary Cutter and are confident using a sewing machine. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nWhat will you bring home: \n\n\nYou can choose a backpack or messenger bag by the size of approx. 11.5” x 10.5”  as your end product. \n\n\nWe will provide you with the pattern so you will be able to replicate this product at home. \n\n\nBirthdays and Christmas always come to quick\, but you will be ready to create this bag as a gift for you or your loved ones. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nAbout the Teacher: \n\n\nDaniela Magee\, interior designer of NY Institute of Art and Design\, changed her Career in 2016 from an IT Consultant to a Motel Manager and moved from Germany to the USA after she and her husband bought the Sandy Point Motel in 2012. The 90 Miler Adirondack Canoe Classic is an amazing boat event (which welcomes canoes\, kayaks\, and guideboats) held on the historic “Highway of the Adirondacks” on the weekend after Labor Day. His goal is to ensure the bears’ well-being as well as the safety of those of us who enter our woods hoping to see them. Long Lake Town Beach. \nGratefully Yours is a Grateful Dead inspired band\, based out of New Paltz\, NY. The band was conceived and founded in 2012 by keyboardist Alex Mazur\, who is also the founder of The Deadbeats; one of the longest running Grateful Dead cover bands in existence. \nHowever\, “cover band” is an extremely misleading term when it comes to the music of Gratefully Yours. Their willingness and ability to improvise\, and their openness to spontaneity and the energy of the moment lie at the core of their performances and truly sets them apart. In the very best tradition of The Grateful Dead\, it is this openness that allows the crowd to become a part of the creative process and results in a synergy between the band and the crowd that is unique and truly special. It is that magic that Gratefully Yours truly aims to “cover” and pay tribute to. \nThey also allow their audience to participate further by giving them the opportunity to submit their dream setlists\, which Gratefully Yours just happen to choose and perform. But of course\, you just never know what might happen… \nThe band members are all long time highly regarded players in the scene: Alex Mazur\, Garrin Benfield\, Jude DeFalco\, Frank Casciaro\, Robert Schiff and Jessica Barlow.
