SUMMARY:Feeling Long Lakey Polar Plunge
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION & BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS – 11AM \nPLUNGE at NOON \nThe Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department along with support from the Long Lake Fire Department and the Long Lake Rescue Squad join forces for the long anticipated return of the “Feeling Long Lakey Polar Bear Plunge”  on December 30\, 2023.  The event kicks off on Saturday of New Years weekend at Noon at the Long Lake Town Beach\, 1258 Main Street\, Long Lake NY. \nThis is a fundraising event to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to participate.  Participants will be eligible to win prizes for Best Costume\, Most Money Raised by an Individual\, Most Money Raised by a Team and Best Plunge Technique. \nFundraising efforts support Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) programs and services\, which are provided at no cost to warriors and their families.  Through their efforts at the community level\, the “Feeling Long Lakey Polar Plunge” is directly supporting WWP programs and services for warriors\, which include access to mental and physical health care\, employment assistance\, and education services. \nRegistration will be held at the Adirondack Hotel from 11am – 11:30am on Saturday\, December 30th with the plunge kicking off at Noon at the Town Beach.  The Long Lake Fire Department will be on site to cut the ice and help manage the safety of the Polar Bears and the Long Lake Rescue Squad will be on site checking blood pressure of the participants.  The Parks and Recreation department is seeking volunteers to be on site to hand out towels\, and handle registrations. \nParticipants are asked to bring towels\, robes\, warm clothes and must wear shoes.   There is a heated public restroom at the location and participants will have access to the building to change and to warm up. \nPre-Registration materials and Wounded Warrior Pledge sheets will be available on-line at www.mylonglake.com/polar-plunge and at the Long Lake Town Office Building\, 1130 Deerland Road weekdays from 8:30am – 5pm.  Call 518-624-3077 for more information. \nThere is a minimum of $25 per person fundraising donation to participate. SUMMARY:Day Hike & Birding with Joan Collins- Low's Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Birding Hike with Joan Collins \n7am. Meet at Geiger Arena. Join Joan Collins for a walk into beautiful Hitchins Pond and the Upper Dam on the Bog River.  Common Loons nest on Hitchins Pond each year.  Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons are also a common sight.  The route is an old dirt road that passes through many lovely and varied habitat areas including a boreal bog\, marsh\, mixed forest\, and ponds/lakes.  After the 2.5 mile walk on level terrain to Hitchins Pond\, there will be a food break at a scenic picnic area.  Participants may order lunch from the Adirondack Trading Post.  Lunch menus will be provided before departure.  Order and enjoy a warm Panini delivered picnic side via guide boat!  There will be an optional 2 mile round trip hike up Low’s Ridge featuring spectacular views of the Bog River Valley and High Peaks.  The round trip distance is 5 miles\, or 7 miles if the hike up Low’s Ridge is added.  Bring food (lunch can be ordered at departure)\, water\, a jacket\, appropriate attire/hiking shoes\, binoculars\, hat\, sunscreen\, and insect spray.  Meet at the Geiger Arena parking area in Long Lake at 7 a.m. for transportation to the trailhead on Long Lake’s “Little Bus”!  (If you are traveling from the north\, the bus can meet you at a more convenient location.) There is an outhouse at Hitchins Pond and a restroom at the Geiger Arena meeting location.   \nRegister by calling the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department at 518-624-3077.  This field trip is jointly sponsored by Northern New York Audubon and the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department.  There is a maximum of 15 participants.

You will learn how to use the collars and pockets of used wool suit-jackets. Up-cycling old garments into a unique and beautiful patchwork bag will give them a new lease on life. \nClass Registration Fee is $200. Discounts and lodging packages listed below. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nWORKSHOP starts on Thursday afternoon @ 4pm\, SEPT. 28th-30th \n\n\nLONG LAKE TOWN HALL 1204 MAIN ST\,  LONG LAKE\, NY \n\n\nREGISTRATION: please call 1-518-624-3871 \n\n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\nDo you like to bring unused\, second-hand garments back to a new life? \n\n\nJoin us and learn to sew one-of-a-kind wool messenger bags or back packs. \n\n\nDid you know that wool is relatively dirt resistant and has an elegant appearance? \n\n\nWe work with used men suits and other second-hand wool garments and bring it back to life. \n\n\nFind those garments at Goodwill or used-clothing stores or from your friends and family. \n\n\n  \n\n\n  \n\n\nWhat will you learn: \n\n\nBy the end of this workshop you will be able to sew a messenger bag or backpack with ease.  You will know how to incorporate several pockets with and without zippers to store your items\, as well as attach the necessary bag closing hardware. You will be able to choose the right interfacing for the wool fabric to give the bag the ultimate shape. We use patchwork technique to give the bag a beautiful look and one of a kind product. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nWho should attend: \n\n\nYou are eager to learn new techniques\, share sewing tips and like to interface\, have fun and learn from others. The class addresses students with sewing experiences who know how to use tools like Rotary Cutter and are confident using a sewing machine. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nWhat will you bring home: \n\n\nYou can choose a backpack or messenger bag by the size of approx. 11.5” x 10.5”  as your end product. \n\n\nWe will provide you with the pattern so you will be able to replicate this product at home. \n\n\nBirthdays and Christmas always come to quick\, but you will be ready to create this bag as a gift for you or your loved ones. \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\nAbout the Teacher: \n\n\nDaniela Magee\, interior designer of NY Institute of Art and Design\, changed her Career in 2016 from an IT Consultant to a Motel Manager and moved from Germany to the USA after she and her husband bought the Sandy Point Motel in 2012.
