DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, March 15th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. the Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department will host a Celtic Ceilidh (prounced kay-lee) at the Long Lake Town Hall located at 1204 Main St. in Long Lake NY. \nThe event will kick off at 11:00 a.m. featuring a live music concert and performance from North Country Fair from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. From 1:00p.m. – 2:30p.m. North Country Fair invites any interested musicians to join the stage for an open Celtic music jam. From 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. all are welcome to join in the fun for traditional Contra Dancing set to lively Celtic music. All ability levels welcome and instruction will be provided for first timers. Ages 12 and up. Come to dance or just listen and watch. \n\nContra Dancing roots comes from mixed origins including English Country and Scottish country dance. There is absolutely no experience necessary\, and all dances will be taught. \n\nRefreshments available for purchase from the Long Lake Lions Club. All proceeds go to the Long Lake Lions Club and are used to fund programs in Long Lake throughout the year. \n\nNorth Country Fair is an arrangement of local musicians from Wanakena\, Vermont and Tupper Lake specializing in Celtic music and instruments. Featuring Doug Riley on cittern\, guitar and vocals; Rick Kovacs on fiddle and guitar; Riczi Kovacs\, Rick’s son on Irish Flute\, guitar\, and tin whistles’; Rick’s wife\, Angie on harp and vocals\, and Katrina Sheats on vocals. \n\nThe original North Country Fair got their start in the late 90’s and featured Doug\, Rick and Rick’s wife Angie. Since then\, they’ve added ­­­Katrina and Riczi to the arrangement but stayed true to their Celtic and Quebecois roots with their music. \n\nAdmission is free\, and this is a family friendly event. SUMMARY:Winter Birding Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Winter Birding Weekend in the Adirondacks! \nSaturday & Sunday\, February 14  and 15th\, 2026 – NEW DATE!  \nEnjoy a weekend of birding trips in the Adirondacks this winter.  Participants will look for winter irruptive species such as Bohemian Waxwings\, and winter finch species such as Red and White-winged Crossbills\, Pine Siskins\, Evening Grosbeaks\, Pine Grosbeaks\, and more\, along with year-round boreal residents such as Ruffed Grouse\, Black-backed Woodpecker\, Canada Jay\, and Boreal Chickadee.  Food sources are good this year with abundant fruit and many conifer species have excellent cone crops.  For more detailed information\, see this year’s “Winter Finch Forecast” at: https://finchnetwork.org/winter-finch-forecast-2025-2026. \nField Trips:  Joan Collins will lead field trips on both days.  Both Saturday and Sunday morning\, meet outside the Adirondack Hotel at 7 a.m. (near the bridge over Long Lake on Route 30).  Participants can drive in their own vehicles\, or car-pool\, if they are comfortable\, to reduce the number of cars in the train. \nSocial Dinner:  On Saturday evening\, we can gather in the Adirondack Hotel dining room at 6 p.m. to enjoy dinner together. \nRegistration is required to attend the field trips.  Contact Joan Collins to register at JoanCollins@ADKAvian.com or 315-244-7127.  There is a maximum of 20 participants for each field trip. \nPlaces to Stay: \nA few possible places to stay in Long Lake (central Adirondacks): \n\nAdirondack Hotel (near the bridge over Long Lake) – hotel with a restaurant: https://adirondackhotel.com/\nLong View Lodge (on the southern end of the lake) – lodge with a restaurant: https://thelongviewlodge.com/\nPaddler’s Rest (on the eastern side of the lake – a motel unit and cabins on the lake): https://www.paddlersrestlonglake.com/\nMotel Long Lake and Cottages (also a motel unit or cabins (all recently renovated) on the lake with a kitchen): https://www.motellonglake.com/\n\nBreakfast/Lunch: Stewarts opens at 5 a.m. and offers quick breakfast items.  Depending on the itineraries for Saturday and Sunday\, lunch can be ordered (if needed) from the ADK Trading Post in Long Lake.  If we go farther afield\, there will be other locations to pick up lunch. \nThe Winter Birding Weekend is sponsored by the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department and cosponsored by Northern New York Audubon.

This family-friendly fishing tournament welcomes anglers of all ages and experience levels for a fun\, full-day event spread across Long Lake and Lake Eaton. \nKids and adults alike are encouraged to take part\, whether it’s landing a prize-worthy catch\, learning the ropes from friends and neighbors\, or simply enjoying a winter day outdoors. Registration begins early in the morning\, with ongoing weigh-ins available throughout the day\, keeping the event relaxed and accessible for participants who want to fish at their own pace. \nThe tournament wraps up with a final weigh-in mid-afternoon\, followed by awards at the Long Lake Diner—where stories are swapped\, smiles are shared\, and winners are celebrated. With kids under 16 fishing free\, this event is a great way for families to make memories\, introduce young anglers to the sport\, and enjoy the strong sense of community that makes winter in Long Lake special. \nEveryone is welcome—whether you’re fishing\, cheering someone on\, or just soaking up the atmosphere on the ice.

DESCRIPTION:The Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department along with support from the Long Lake Fire Department and the Long Lake Rescue Squad join forces for Feeling Long Lakey Polar Bear Plunge on December 27\, 2025.  The event kicks off on Saturday of New Years weekend at Noon at the Long Lake Town Beach\, 1258 Main Street\, Long Lake NY. \nThis is a fundraising event to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.  Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to participate.  Participants will be eligible to win prizes for Best Costume\, Most Money Raised by an Individual\, Most Money Raised by a Team and Best Plunge Technique. \nFundraising efforts support Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) programs and services\, which are provided at no cost to warriors and their families.  Through their efforts at the community level\, the “Feeling Long Lakey Polar Plunge” is directly supporting WWP programs and services for warriors\, which include access to mental and physical health care\, employment assistance\, and education services. \nRegistration will be held at the Adirondack Hotel from 10:30am – 11:30am on Saturday\, December 27th with the plunge kicking off at Noon at the Town Beach.  The Long Lake Fire Department will be on site to cut the ice and help manage the safety of the Polar Bears and the Long Lake Rescue Squad will be on site checking participants blood pressure.  The Parks and Recreation department is seeking volunteers to be on site to hand out towels\, and handle registrations. \nParticipants must be 16 or older.  Bring towels\, robes\, warm clothes and must wear shoes.   There is a heated public restroom at the location and participants will have access to the building to change and to warm up. \nCostumes and creativity strongly encouraged. \nPre-Registration materials and Wounded Warrior Pledge sheets will be available on-line at www.mylonglake.com/polar-plunge and at the Long Lake Town Office Building\, 1130 Deerland Road weekdays from 8:30am – 5pm.  Call 518-624-3077 for more information. \nhttps://communityfundraising.woundedwarriorproject.org/campaigns/Feeling-Long-Lake-Polar-Plunge-2025

DESCRIPTION:Parks and Rec sponsors a community trip to the ADK thunder Game. This FREE outing open to year-round residents. Tickets included! Priority given to youth particiapants! Families and community members are welcome to attend. There are 35 tickets available and only 13 seats on the Little bus\, so early sign-up is encouraged. Children 10 and under must attend with a parent or guardian. The sign-up deadline is Monday\, November 17th and anyone who signs up but does not attend will be responsible for the cost of their ticket. Interested in chaperoning?
