SUMMARY:Mosaic Steppingstone Class
DESCRIPTION:In this summer themed mosaic steppingstone class\, you will create a unique stepping stone for your yard.   You will choose your design from a number of different patterns\, then select all the glass from a nice array of colors and textures.  You will learn how to cut the glass and grind it to fit the pattern.  You will then affix your focal point glass pieces to the stone with special cement and fill in the background with smaller pieces of glass. The cement needs to be totally dry before the stone can be grouted\, so we will do a demonstration stone to show everyone how to apply the grout.  You will take the grout powder home for mixing and grouting in a few days. \nThe cost for the class is $45 per person.  All materials and tools are included.  Safety glasses and gloves will be provided.  Registration and pre-payment is required.  Please email pokrentowski@aol.com to register.  Mary will respond to your email to confirm space availability. Maximum 8 students. \nCancellations made at least 1 week prior to the first day of a class will receive a 100% refund. No refunds or exchanges will be made for failing to attend the class without prior notice. \nIn the event that we must cancel the class\, a full refund for the class will be issued. \nIt is a good idea to wear long pants and closed shoes when working with glass. \nThe instructor\, Mary Pokrentowski\, has been making and teaching stained glass for over 30 years. \n

DESCRIPTION:Lou Berchielli\, DEC Bear Biologist\, Ret\, Returns to Long Lake to Discuss \n******* \nFriday\, August 18\, 2023\, 7-9PM\, \nLong Lake Town Hall\, 1204 Main St. \n(doors open 6:30PM; admission is gratis) \n******** \n\nAll Long Lake residents and summer visitors are invited to attend a two-hour long discussion and q&a with renowned Black Bear biologist\, Lou Berchielli\, who has dedicated his long career with the State DEC and into retirement to studying bears and educating the general public about these elusive and iconic creatures. \n  \nDuring the course of the evening\, he will narrate a film that summarizes his life’s work. His goal is to ensure the bears’ well-being as well as the safety of those of us who enter our woods hoping to see them. His well-known admonition – “A fed bear is a dead bear.” – signifies his belief that the responsibility for achieving that goal rests largely with us. \n  \nCome\, enjoy\, bring the older kids. Ask all the questions the film and your personal experiences summon up. \n  \n(Please note the illustration below is one of four information posters created by Long Lake Central School students subsequent to a discussion about bears with Mr. Berchielli when he visited their Science class in late May. Their Science teacher\, Ms. Nicole Curtin\, moderated that discussion. All four posters are on display in the Long Lake Public library.) \n  \nDoors open at 6:30PM. Admission is gratis. \nEvent organized by the Long Lake Wildlife Education Committee\, Dr.Jack Carney\, Coordinator. \nFor further information\, contact Dr. Carney at 971-734-9806.

SUMMARY:Gratefully Yours - Music by the Lake
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, August 18\, 2023 – NEW DATE! \nMusic by the Lake – Gratefully Yours\n6-8pm. Long Lake Town Beach. \nGratefully Yours is a Grateful Dead inspired band\, based out of New Paltz\, NY. The band was conceived and founded in 2012 by keyboardist Alex Mazur\, who is also the founder of The Deadbeats; one of the longest running Grateful Dead cover bands in existence. \nHowever\, “cover band” is an extremely misleading term when it comes to the music of Gratefully Yours. Their willingness and ability to improvise\, and their openness to spontaneity and the energy of the moment lie at the core of their performances and truly sets them apart. In the very best tradition of The Grateful Dead\, it is this openness that allows the crowd to become a part of the creative process and results in a synergy between the band and the crowd that is unique and truly special. It is that magic that Gratefully Yours truly aims to “cover” and pay tribute to. \nThey also allow their audience to participate further by giving them the opportunity to submit their dream setlists\, which Gratefully Yours just happen to choose and perform. But of course\, you just never know what might happen… \nThe band members are all long time highly regarded players in the scene: Alex Mazur\, Garrin Benfield\, Jude DeFalco\, Frank Casciaro\, Robert Schiff and Jessica Barlow. And they have some very special guests and friends who have and do sit in with them. Zach Nugent (Melvin Seals & JGB)\, Vinnie Amico (moe.)\, Tony Markelis (Trey Anastasio Band)\, Bill Carbone (Max Creek)\, Rob Eaton (Dark Star Orchestra)\, and Russ Lawton (Trey Anastasio Band).
